Optovue Avanti and BluTech Lenses – Here at Broadway Vision Source
Earlier this year, Dr. Matsunami attended a series of seminars in Boston to learn about the latest improvements in eye care technology. Two results of this trip are the Optovue Avanti Optical Coherence Tomographer (OCT) and Blutech lenses, both of which we’ve had here at Broadway Vision Source since the spring.
Our new Optovue Avanti OCT is an upgrade from the iVue OCT we had been using for the previous three years. This new OCT gives us highly detailed cross-sectional views of a much broader scope of your retina than ever before. Thus, we can better diagnose and monitor conditions like macular degeneration, diabetic cystoid macular edema, macular holes, central serous retinopathy, and the very early stages of glaucoma, to name a few.
BluTech lenses are also very exciting. One theory in eye disease is that all light is destructive to the macula. And yet, the macula is what’s responsible for our daytime color central focus vision. The challenge is to protect the macula from the very light it requires for vision. Enter BluTech lenses, which are tinted amber to mimic the natural tint of our human lens. The amber tint, while not changing your color perception, absorbs harmful UV light, and in particular absorbs the shorter, more energetic blue wavelengths. We offer BluTech lenses for indoor eye glass lenses for protection against fluorescent and electronic screen lights, as well as outdoor eye glass lenes for sunshine and glare.
At Broadway Vision Source, we are dedicated to providing quality eye care. We’ll continue to research new eye care technology as it comes available and upgrade our services regularly in order to give you the very best eye care available.
